Watermarking

Automatic watermarking on every photo

A watermark is what separates showing your work from giving it away. In FotoHook you set it up once and it is applied on its own to everything you upload from then on.

What it does

When you upload a photo, FotoHook keeps the original untouched and also prepares a marked copy: that is what your clients see while they choose. You, from the dashboard, keep seeing clean photos.

The mark can be your logo —upload a PNG with transparency and it is laid over the image— or a piece of text, say "© Your Studio 2026", shown centred over the photo. You can use both.

Two more settings: the position of the logo, in any of the five available zones, and the opacity, from 0 to 100. Too faint and it protects nothing; too opaque and nobody can judge the photo. The usual balance sits between 50% and 70%.

The point is that it is not one more step in your editing: no exporting two versions, no batch through Photoshop. You upload the original once and the system does the rest.

How it works, step by step

You upload your logo

In the account settings. A PNG with a transparent background works best; the system scales it to the photo.

Or you type your text

If you prefer a typographic mark, the text is enough. It is shown centred over the image.

You choose position and opacity

Five positions for the logo —the four corners or the centre— and a transparency value between 0 and 100.

You upload the photos

From then on, every upload generates its marked copy without you doing anything.

The client chooses from the marked version

They see the grid and the full-size viewer, always with your mark over it.

On payment they get the original

Clean, unmarked and without recompression. The watermark only exists for the selection stage.

Details worth knowing

Logo, text or both

The logo goes wherever you decide; the text is centred. Use one or combine them.

Five positions

The four corners or the centre of the image. Chosen by clicking a grid, not by typing coordinates.

Adjustable opacity

From 0 to 100. Below 30 it barely protects; above 80 it covers the photo and gets in the way of the sale.

Applied at upload time

The marked copy is generated there and then, so the gallery has nothing to process when the client arrives.

Existing photos do not change

If you change the mark, photos already uploaded keep the one they had. To apply the new one, upload them again.

The original is never touched

The mark lives on a separate copy. The file you deliver on a sale is exactly the one you uploaded.

Who it is for

Anyone showing photos before being paid for them. In social photography, school work and grassroots sport, selection means looking at a lot of images: if they are clean, there is nothing left to sell.

And also for anyone who only delivers: a discreet mark on the preview gallery keeps the photo off social media until you publish it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

It never touches the original. It only appears on the copy used for choosing; what the client buys comes out clean.

The mark is set at account level and applies to what you upload afterwards. If you need an unmarked delivery, the usual route is to sell it or grant the download directly.

PNG with transparency. A white opaque background will show as a box over the photo.

No. The original is not served until there is a paid order: it is not a CSS layer you can remove with the inspector, it is a different image.
